Finding Your Groove

How was your weekend?

Mine was fabulous.

We hosted a party for our nephews and their significant others graduations.

My older nephew and his wife graduated from their post-college studies (I don’t remember their exact degrees).

And my younger nephew and his fiance graduated from college and we all attended the graduation ceremony. They attended college about 20 minutes from here.

It was a weekend of family.

Which is wonderful and tiring all at the same time.

In some ways, I feel like I’m still finding my groove for hosting these family parties. Even though this is probably the fourth or fifth party we’ve hosted (and my sister-in-law is fabulous and always plans and brings much of the food).

This week’s Wednesday Live with Evie topic is Networking and Your Schedule.

This topic came about because someone at a networking event asked me about it and suggested that I cover this in more detail in a Wednesday Live with Evie (so, if there’s something you’d like to see, let me know!).

Just like me finding my groove for hosting family parties, sometimes you need to find your networking groove with your schedule.

If you network a bunch one week, you might find that you have very little time for your business.

But, if you don’t network enough, you might find yourself with not enough work or clients.

So, how do you find that happy medium?

Let’s talk about that this week.

Update: You can find this Wednesday LIVE with Evie here.

The season of vacations

It’s the first full week of June.

Kids are out of school for the summer or counting the days left on one hand.

And it’s the season of vacations.

What do you have planned for your summer?

And what are your plans for your business while you’re away having fun?

Will you be working on your business while on vacation? Or be able to step fully away?

Which one do you want?

For this week’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie let’s talk about preparing your business for your vacation.

The above is what I wrote yesterday for this article.

It’s a bit shorter than usual, isn’t it?

I had a headache for most of yesterday and spent a couple hours in bed trying to sleep it off. It didn’t solve it, but it wasn’t as bad.

So, late yesterday afternoon I wanted to just go and veg out on the couch, and I also wanted to announce what the topic was for this week’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie (the above was sent out in an email).

And today, I’m thinking about this coming Monday.

My husband has an appointment that will take him out of the house for the entire afternoon. It’s mostly a lot of driving and then a short appointment.

He’s suggested that I go too and spend the afternoon with him. Part of me wants to go, and another part has been thinking “but there are THINGS that need to be DONE”.

I find this inner dialog of mine amusing.

Do you know why?

Because I basically took yesterday afternoon off to nap and do nothing because I had a headache. But to PLAN to take the afternoon off?! How will I get my Monday things done if I’m not in my office on Monday?!

HA!

So, if something unexpected happens (like a headache), I’ll take the time I need off and figure out the details later.

But if it’s expected but with no set purpose (like an afternoon off to spend in the car with my husband), well, that’s almost not doable!

Do you relate to this?

Do you figure out how to work the unexpected absence into your business schedule, but are reluctant to take a day off, let alone for a week?

The topic of tomorrow’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie (at 1pm CDT) is Vacation and Your Business.

We’ll talk about:

  • How to prepare your business for your vacation
  • What to do (or not to do) while on vacation
  • Smooth re-entry to business after vacation

What questions do you have about preparing yourself and your business for your vacation? Let me know in the comments below.

I look forward to “seeing” you on Facebook tomorrow (Wed, June 6) at 1pm CDT.

All the moving pieces came together

How was your Memorial Day weekend?

Nate (my husband) had passes to the NCAA Division I Golf Tournament that is happening not too far from here (the business he works for provides Rich Harvest Farms their internet connection).

I’ve been hearing about this event for well over a month, as Nate and his boss prepared for it.

We went out over the weekend and walked around. The course is absolutely beautiful. The older part of the course is my favorite, it has many older trees that cover the landscape. And there are babbling brooks that wind their way through the course.

I marveled at all the moving pieces that came together to create a large event like this, both before, during and after the event. There are a lot of people buzzing about.

It reminded me of a couple of moving house stories and the process of goal setting and achieving. While neither probably has as many moving pieces as the event, there is quite a bit that can go into both.

They all require planning and successful interactions with other people.

For this week’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie let’s talk about that.

We’ll talk about the differences between smooth and stressful house moves (I’ve got good stories), and the commonalities between smooth house moves, the NCAA event, and goal setting and achieving.

Creating More Time

Wednesday LIVE with Evie #22

What’s on your “when I have more time” list?
What would it take for you to make “more time”?
What would need to change?

These aren’t rhetorical questions. They’re the questions that will help you create more time each week.

We went over why those questions are important and the “how to” of creating more time.

The ever elusive “more time”

Often in the world of productivity, we get really caught up in the things that have to get done.

And the things we like to do or want to do get left on the sideline, waiting for us to have the ever elusive “more time.”

And the search for (or waiting for) “more time” might feel a bit like a wild goose chase. You almost feel like you’ve got it, and then it runs off in a different direction.

What’s on your “when I have more time” list?
What would it take for you to make “more time”?
What would need to change?

They might look like rhetorical questions, but they’re not!

Check out the Facebook Live I did on this topic here.
