Weekly and daily planning

Are you thinking about Thanksgiving already?

I am because we’ve been coordinating with our families for what days we’ll be where. Checking and rechecking people’s schedules to make sure that we have the days right and can maximize our family time.

It’s all sorted now and we know our plans for Thursday and Friday.

I’ve also been thinking about the different ways people plan their days and weeks.

In my experience, both personal and from working with my clients, I’ve noticed there are some universal things that work (and generally don’t work).

I talk about that below.

It’s not Greek (and goal achieving)

Over the weekend I started thinking about “if then else” statements.

It’s usually something like “if (x = y) then {do this} else {do this}”.

If it’s Greek to you, that’s okay.

In my previous career, I was a computer programmer, so it’s not that weird that it would pop to mind.

And it’s one of the most basic statements in programming. All programming languages have it.

Seriously, I think programming is less about the particular programming language you’re using and more about if you can logically break something down into smaller pieces.

Business can be similar.

We have goals that we want to accomplish and they need to be broken down to actually accomplish them.

So, for this week’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie we talked about goal setting.

We went over what gets in the way and the basics of successful goal setting. After all, 2018 is just around the corner!

Self-care to stay productive (I finally turned on the heat)

If you’re in the Midwest, the weather is definitely changing. And while October where I am has been warmer than normal, it’s chilly and raining today.

It’s the time of year where I want to light candles in my office and turn on my space heater (because I’m stubborn and don’t want to turn on the heat in the rest of the house yet. Ridiculous? Probably).

And it’s the time of year where people start getting sick.

Maybe this is where the old wives’ tale about getting sick if you get cold comes from.

So for this week’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie (1pm CDT), we talked about self-care to stay productive.

Wednesday LIVE with Evie #41

Think of the times when you’ve been procrastinating a bunch or your energy was really low and it just felt hard to get things done.

Was self-care something that was lacking at that time?
Maybe you felt you didn’t deserve it or didn’t have time for it?

Well, maybe part of the problem was that you weren’t taking care of yourself.

In the video, I share some tips around self-care and some ideas that the ladies in my FB group shared with me.

She hasn’t peed on the floor once! (setting boundaries)

Cam (Boston Terrier)No, I didn’t get a dog 🙂

Nate (my husband) and I are watching my parent’s dog, Cam, while they’re on vacation this week.

Last time she was here for 4 days (3 nights) and she peed on our bedroom floor 2 of the 3 mornings.

So far, she’s been here 3 mornings and hasn’t peed on the floor once.

Why is that?

We take her downstairs promptly in the morning. Her crate (with her pee pad) is there.

We don’t give her the opportunity to be on the carpet in our bedroom long enough in the morning to do anything she shouldn’t (she sleeps in bed, because that’s what she does at home).

We’ve created a boundary.

She doesn’t stay upstairs after both Nate and I are up.

Now, this might change when she’s learned how to go down (and up) our hardwood stairs.

But for now, since she can’t take herself downstairs and because she’s shown no interest in using a pee pad upstairs, she’s carried downstairs when we’re both up (she’ll happily stay in bed until it’s empty).

While you might not have the issue above (hopefully), it did make me think about boundaries that we do or can put around our business or our personal lives.

Boundaries that support you, support your business, and help you from having a mess to clean up 😉

What are some of those boundaries for you?

In this week’s Wednesday LIVE with Evie I shared both what seems obvious and what might not be so obvious. And how to pick boundaries that are right for you.

The 3 questions to answer for faster decision making

Wednesday LIVE with Evie #39

Have you ever been offered something and later realized it would have been *exactly* what you needed?

Or had someone share a product or service that looks interesting, but you’re not sure how to decide if it’s something you actually need right now?

There are three question you can ask yourself that will help you quickly determine if it’s the right fit for you.
